Traffic resumes on Srinagar-Jammu highway

Srinagar: Traffic resumed on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway this afternoon after remaining suspended since Friday evening due to landslides at Magarkote.

Meanwhile, traffic was resumed on Srinagar-Leh national highway on Saturday after remaining suspended in view of weekly maintenance for a day.
A traffic police official told UNI that only Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) traffic was resumed this afternoon after remaining suspended since Friday night due to landslides and shooting stones at Magarkote on the highway.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), responsible for the maintenance of the highway put into service sophisticated machine and men and cleared the landslides, he said adding only LMVs were allowed to move from both Srinagar and Jammu.

Decision to allow Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) stranded between Zig Qazigund and Jawahar tunnel will be taken later in the day, he said.
