Parliamentary panel to undertake two-day J&K visit from Jul 12

Srinagar: A parliamentary panel is undertaking a two-day visit of Jammu & Kashmir from July 12 to examine implementation of different centrally sponsored schemes of the Union Ministries of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.

The Parliament’s standing committee on Rural Development is expected to arrive in Kashmir on July 12 after concluding its two-day visit to Ladakh Union Territory.

During their two-day study visit to J&K, the committee members comprising MPs from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will examine different issues under central sector and centrally sponsored schemes being implemented by the Union Ministry of Rural and Union Ministry of Panchayat Raj.

The panel will also examine the role of banks in implementation of different schemes sponsored by both the Union ministries.

The panel is expected to hold discussions with officials of different departments of J&K Union Territory regarding various programmes and schemes of the ministry of Rural Development department, ministry of Panchayat Raj, National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development(NABARD) and Jammu and Kashmir Bank, which is convener of State Level Bankers Committee and Lead Bank in Srinagar district.

The standing committee on Rural development is headed by Lok Sabha MP Prataprao Jadhav and comprises of 28 MPs from different political parties.

Earlier this year, the panel pointed out slackness and shortcomings in implementation of different schemes of Union Rural Development Ministry in J&K.

The panel directed the central ministry to coordinate with the authorities of J&K so as to bring improvement.

In its report, which was tabled in the Parliament in March this year, the panel noticed slackness/shortcomings in in social audits of Gram Panchayats, Sansaad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) and inadequate meetings of District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committees(DISHAs).

Different schemes of rural development ministry like National Rural Employment (NREGA), Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana(PMGSY), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana( Gramin), National Rural Livelihood Mission(NRLM) are being implemented in Jammu and Kashmir.
