Srinagar: Authorities in Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Tuesday stopped construction work on a private building after residents of Baghat locality staged a protest, demanding immediate demolishing of the structure.
Locals from Baghat area took to the streets in the morning to press for their demands. They said that despite approaching the concerned authorities, the blue-eyed person, who is allegedly raising a commercial building in residential areas, was allowed to go ahead with the construction.
“Nobody paid heed to the sufferings of the local populace,” they said, adding that the reluctance shown by the concerned authorities forced them to hit the streets to press for their demands.
They informed that soon after they approached the concerned police station, the officials from Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) visited the spot and stopped the work till further orders.
Earlier, the locals had said that after an objection raised by them some three years back, the court had put the building permission in abeyance after it was found that a commercial building was being raised in the locality.
However, the work at the building remained halted for quite some years, but was resumed by the owner again a few days back, raising apprehensions among the locals.
Meanwhile, Chief Enforcement Officer (CEO) SMC couldn’t be contacted as he didn’t receive the repeated phone calls. (KNO)
