PDP rules out split in PAGD, calls it ‘hope’ of people

Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Friday stated that People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) represents wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and that there are no issues within the conglomerate at all.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a meeting at PDP president Mehbooba Mufti’s Gupkar residence, party official spokesman Syed Suhail Bukhari asserted that PAGD is a ‘hope’ for the people of Jammu and Kashmir who are suffering various problems at the moment.

“PAGD is hope for the people of Jammu and Kashmir who suffer various problems at the moment. The organization was formed to represent people’s wishes and aspirations in a true manner. All constituents are united and there are no issues within the conglomerate at all,” added he.

Referring to the All Party Meeting (APM) convened by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in New Delhi on 24th of last month, he said as soon as PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti returned consultations with senior party leaders on the prevailing situation of Jammu and Kashmir began.

As many as fourteen political leaders including three former chief ministers of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti attended the All Party meeting convened by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on June 24.

APM was the first of its kind initiative after the centre abrogated special status of Jammu and Kashmir and divided the erstwhile state into separate Union Territories.

Bukhari further said that PDP chief as part of the ongoing consultation process today again called senior members of the party including former ministers and legislators to discuss the threadbare prevailing situation of Jammu and Kashmir and party affairs as well.

“As you all know an All Party Meeting was held in New Delhi on June 24, our party president started consultations with senior party leaders as soon as she returned from Delhi. Threadbare discussion was held on the prevailing situation of Jammu and Kashmir and party affairs as well,” said the PDP leader.

He said PDP would continue to represent wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and asserted that speculations do not work as attempts to derail the process were made in the past as well.

Bukhari also said that PDP president after her return had some other engagements including that of the heart wrenching incident that took place in Awantipora recently.
