Hajin family protest, accuses man of killing his wife

Srinagar: A family from Hajin area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district Tuesday staged a protest demanding exhumation and post-mortem of a 35-year-old woman who according to them was allegedly killed by her husband at Gund Jahangir village of Sumbal.

The family members from Baharabad Hajin staged a protest in Srinagar Press enclave today, alleging that their daughter was deliberately killed by her husband at Gund-Jahangir village on June 07.

Demanding exhumation and post-mortem of the woman, the protesters said they thought their daughter had died of natural causes but a few days later they suspected that she was deliberately poisoned by the in-laws, “after which she died”.

“She talked with me on the phone in the evening. If she was sick she would have told me. Her in-laws were telling us that she was ill which led to her death, but it is a lie. She was deliberately poisoned and killed,” mother of deceased women alleged.

“I need justice whoever killed my daughter should be put behind bars. How long will our daughters die like this,” she said. “We didn’t know at first how our daughter had died. Later, an ‘Out Patient Card’ of Sumbal hospital which belonged to my deceased daughter revealed that she had consumed some poison.”

Suhail Shafi, deceased woman’s son said that her mother was already being harassed by her in-laws of which a case is going on in Baramulla women’s cell.

“We just want justice. Whoever killed my mother should be dealt with severely, ” he said.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer said that following the complaint from the deceased woman’s family, they have arrested her husband along with another person while proceedings under 174 CRPC are going on.

“We have just got the permission from Deputy Commissioner Bandipora for the exhumation of the body and now we have to form a medical team after which we can take further action,” he said. (KNO)
