Srinagar: In order to tap the increasing unemployment, the Jammu and Kashmir government is mulling to set up a Youth Commission in the Union Territory to reach out to the youth.

The Youth Commission will act as a Nodal Agency for the overall development of the youth with varying talents so that they are engaged and shown a path to the best possible career ladder.

“We have youth with varying talents. Some are good at art work, calligraphy, writing, sports and many other things. But they don’t have any idea how to excel further. If we catch them young and teach them right, they will have a successful career,” said an official.

The official sources in the government told The Precious Kashmir that the once the Commission or the Board, as it will be called, is constituted it will be a big leap towards channelising the energy of youth.

“We see how youth of J&K show their talent in different areas. We read in media about the success stories. But there is no proper mechanism to institutionalise this talent or can say a platform to give them a way forward,” said another senior official.

He said there is no youth board or commission that can guide youth in their areas of interest. It is said that this commission, once established, will function as a nodal agency for overall youth development.

Pertinent to say here that there is already a department called Youth Services and Sports, but there are dealing with sports activities only.

“Youth in Jammu and Kashmir have excelled in many areas beyond sports. We need to channelise that and provide them the due platform,” said the official, who said he didn’t want to be named.

According to him, the youth services and sports department is primarily dealing with sports activities, which doesn’t suffice when it comes to overall youth affairs.

Apart from sports, there is another section of youth who are not interested or engaged in sports.

The government, according to sources, would create a professional platform of engagement for youth who have other areas of interest like art work, community development, social sectors, welfare works needs an institutional mechanism.
