Prayers barred in mosques in North Kashmir village

Srinagar: In the first such explicit order amid rising covid-19 cases, authorities in Gulmarg area of north Kashmir have prohibited congregational prayers in mosques in a village amid reports that the inhabitants give a go by to the appropriate behavior.

“In the larger interest of lives of General public of Village Ferozpora, it is hereby ordered that the congregational prayers in all mosques of the said village shall be strictly prohibited, for a period of one week in the first instance,” reads an order by SDM, a copy of which lies with GNS.

It mentions that the District Magistrate Baramulla (Chairperson DDMA) on April 22 declared Village Ferozpora in Tehsil Tangmarg as Micro-containment zone for containment of Covid-19 disease.

“The mass sampling of the Village was carried out by Medical Block Tangmarg and it has been detected that 21% persons have been tested positive for Covid-19 infections which reflects a sharp surge in the Covid positive cases,” the order reads, adding, “It has been reported that the inhabitants of the village do not follow SOPs/guidelines during the indoor gatherings viz congregational prayers.”

The SDM has underlined that any violation to order shall invite punitive action.

“The Tehsildar Tangmarg and SDPO Tangmarg shall implement the order in letter and spirit,” the order added. (GNS)
