‘Violators to be fined Rs 10,000’
Srinagar: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Friday directed the poultry outlets and dealers not to throw the waste in drains and water bodies, saying that those found involved in the act shall be liable to a fine of Rs 10,000/- on every such instance and sealing of business units on continued subsequent offences.
The corporation in a bid to avoid such happenings has come up with a Poultry Waste Collection Service in Srinagar which according to the officials is available on a monthly chargeable basis.
An order under number SMC/PS/COM/759-767, dated 16-04-2021 in this regard has been issued by the SMC Commissioner Athar Aamir Khan.
“It has been observed that many of the poultry outlets & dealers are throwing their generated poultry waste either in city drains or in water bodies or over the roadsides which is an unlawful activity causing an irreversible damage to the environment and public health and is in violation to the relevant provisions of Solid Waste Management Rules 2016, and Srinagar Municipal Corporation Solid Waste Management Bylaws 2019, and guidelines put forth by National Green Tribunal, so cannot be allowed to continue,” the order reads.
“Through the medium of this notice all such outlet owners/dealers are informed to desist from such unlawful activity immediately, the violators shall be liable to a fine of Rs. 10,000/- on every such instance and sealing of business units on continued subsequent offences. Chief Sanitation Officer SMC, Zonal Sanitation Officers, Ward Officers and Sanitary Inspectors are directed to ensure no such violation takes place and are hereby authorized for imposition of this fine,” the order added.
“Srinagar Municipal Corporation is also offering a Poultry Waste Collection Service in Srinagar which is available on monthly chargeable basis. The outlet owners/dealers can contact the respective Ward Offices for booking of the service,” it added.
