Let’s combat vaccine nationalism: China

Beijing: As the COVID-19 pandemic is still spreading globally and the world economy is still facing the risk of recession, China’s State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged countries to join hands and combat “vaccine nationalism”.

“This unprecedented epidemic has made us realise deeply that the world is indeed a community with a shared future,” Wang said at an event at the foreign ministry on Monday.

Wang said that China has provided anti-epidemic materials to more than 160 countries and international organisations around the world so far and is providing urgently needed vaccines to more than 100 countries and international organizations.

China, he said, will continue to make its efforts to maintain the stability of the global anti-epidemic materials supply chain and provide support to countries in need.

“China will stick to solidarity and mutual assistance and join hands with other countries to eventually defeat the COVID-19 pandemic,” Xinhua news agency quoted Wang as saying.

He said China will adhere to opening-up and cooperation, and work with other countries to promote the recovery of the world economy.

“China, which continues to open wider to the outside world, will further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with other countries and inject more impetus into the recovery of the global economy,” Wang said.
