CBI arrests senior officer in bribe case at Jmu passport office

Jammu: Acting on a complaint of corruption, the sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Jammu on Tuesday arrested a passport officer while demanding and accepting a bribe at Regional Passport Office here.

CBI sources said a complaint was lodged that one Adarsh Kumar, Senior Passport Assistant, posted at Regional Passport Office, Jammu, demanded a bribe of Rs 5000/- to settle the renewal of passport of complaint.

“The passport renewal was pending with him since 2020 but he was demanding a bribe to clear the document following which the complainant lodged a complaint with the CBI Office,” said a CBI Official adding that the officer had also agreed later to settle the case for Rs 4000/-.

He said a case under R/C 5/2021 was registered and investigation taken up.

“A trap was laid and a raid was conducted by the team,” he said, adding that the officer was arrested while demanding and accepting the bribe money in the Passport Office, Jammu.

“He was produced before the Special Judge while investigation is in progress,” said the CBI official.
