Police foils PDP attempt to hit streets against double tax

Srinagar: Police on Friday foiled an attempt by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) activists to hit the streets in Srinagar against double tax of vehicles purchased from outside the Jammu and Kashmir.

PDP leaders and other activists had assembled at party headquarter near here today to took out a protest march in Srinagar.

However, police closed all roads leading to PDP headquarter with barbed wire.

The main gate of the building was also closed and large number of security forces were deployed to prevent any procession by PDP activists.

After they were not allowed to move out of the party headquarter, PDP leaders and other activists raised slogans against the administration.

We want to took out a peaceful march against anti people decisions of the government, they said.

The agitators were demanding roll back of the order under which people who have purchased vehicles from other states of India were being asked to pay double token tax.
