Delay in SMC’s council meet leaves many city projects in limbo

Srinagar: A series of steps that are scheduled to be taken under the much-hyped Srinagar Smart City has got delayed as the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Council headed by Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu has failed to fix a meeting since 2019.

It has been learnt from reliable sources that no meeting of council has taken place since 2019, thus the decisions that would have been taken a long time back, got delayed.

Deputy Mayor, Parvaiz Qadri said there are various developments projects in the loop but from 2019 no general council session has been held and nothing has been discussed till date.

Whether general council will be held anytime soon, Qadri said that so far the date has not been fixed.

“We are hopeful that a general council session will be called shortly to pass various resolutions vis-a-vis the development of Srinagar,” he said.

Many projects including the beautification of Srinagar City and construction of passenger sheds and other projects have got unnecessarily delayed for the last two years.
