Machil reopens, Keran road shuts again due to fresh snowfall

Srinagar: Traffic on Kupwara-Machil road was resumed after remaining closed for about a week due to snowfall early last week while Kupwara-Keran road was closed on Monday due to fresh snowfall.
Meanwhile, Bandipora-Gurez road remained closed since January Ist, 2021 due to accumulation of snow and avalanches.
A  Police Control Room (PCR) official told UNI over phone from Kupwara that traffic was resumed on the Kupwara-Machil road which connects dozens of far flung and remote areas with district heaqarter. The road was closed due to fresh snowfall last week. However, snow has been cleared and traffic resumed this morning, he said.
However, he said, road to border area of Keran with district headquarter Kupwara was closed this morning following fresh snowfall and slippery road conditions.
Manwhile, traffic to the border town of Gurez, which is surrounded by Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) from three sides, remained suspended since January 1 due to the accumulation of snow at Razdan pass and adjoining areas. Intermittent snow and avalanches hampered the early snow clearance on the road, also leading to dozens of far flung and remote villages, including near the Line of Control (LoC).
