Only one-way traffic to ply on Srinagar-Jammu highway

Srinagar: Only one-way traffic will ply from Srinagar to Jammu on Sunday on highway, which connects the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.

Vehicles, stranded between Jawahar tunnel and Banihal, would also be allowed to move towards Jammu, a traffic police official said today.

Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Leh highway, the only road linking the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh with Kashmir remained closed since January Ist, 2021 due to accumulation of snow and avalanches.

Traffic also remained suspended on historic 86-km-long Mughal road and Anantnag-Kishtwar road, linking south Kashmir with Jammu region.

He said LMVs will ply from Srinagar to Jammu and no vehicle would be allowed from opposite direction. The vehicles had to cross Zig Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir, between 0700 hrs to 1200 hrs, he said adding no vehicle will be allowed after deadline.

Yesterday two-way LMV traffic was allowed on the highway after remaining closed on Friday for weekly maintenance.
