Srinagar: Water supply in downtown, Srinagar, was disrupted after the main pipeline was damaged during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, officials said.
They said the main 450 mm dia pipeline of Jal Shakti (Public Health Engineering ) has got damaged, during the night, near Khayam.
They said the water supply from the Nishat plant has been stopped, by closing the main sluice.
The restoration is likely to take a complete day, they said adding affected areas included Khanyar and adjoining areas in the downtown.
Meanwhile, Jal Shakti department has set up a control room and appealed to people to contact in case of any emergency.
The department has also decided to provide water through tankers in affected areas.
