Traders meet SMC Commissioner

Srinagar:  Kashmir Trade Alliance called on Athar Amir Shafi, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation on Friday and demanded proper drainage, parking of vehicles and installation of street lights in the markets.

A delegation of traders led by Ajaz Shahdhar, President, Kashmir Trade Alliance, met SMC Commissioner and apprised him of issues confronting the trade community .

He informed the SMC commissioner that after light rains, the  markets turn into lakes and ponds.

“In Srinagar and other areas, rain water also enters shops as a result which traders face significant losses,” he said.

Referring to the recent rains, Shahdhar said dozens of bazaars in old City and civil Lines areas were submerged in water and traders suffered heavy losses.

He also said that customers face lot of difficulties in the evening due to the absence of street lights.

“Although street lights have been installed in many markets,  but their condition is dilapidated and need immediate repair,” the delegation told the SMC commissioner.

The delegation also demanded parking in the markets.

“Due to non-availability of parking spaces in the city,  customers are suffering, and  the buying and selling is also declining,” they said and demanded that places in markets in the city be identified, where  customers can park their vehicles and do shopping with ease.  (KNS)
