Unscheduled power cuts irk industrial unit holders

Units will be provided uninterrupted electricity: CE PDD

Srinagar:The unit holders of Industrial Estate HMT Zainakote have been complaining about the erratic power supply after the PDD announced the curtailment schedule for the Estate.

President Industrial Estate Zainakote Mohammad Ayoub  said despite of separate feeder earmarked for the Industrial Estate, it is witnessing the load of the residential area resulting in low voltage and frequent power cuts.

“The unscheduled power cuts in the day and scheduled power cuts in the evening which are our peak hours of work hampers our productivity and results in the losses for unitholders,” he said.

A top official said there is no unscheduled power cuts except if there is a breakdown or maintenance issue.

“However if the unitholders want any changes in the scheduled power cuts they can approach the PDD and discuss it,” an official said.

An Industrialist dealing with Cold Chain of Food processing said a separate feeder which was allotted for Industrial Estate HMT Zainakote for commercial use, is distributing the electricity supply to the local population also, “which results in the drop of voltage and erratic power supply to Industries.”

“We have apprised the PDD officials about the issue but on the ground nothing substantial has happened so far.”

“Electricity is the fuel for Industries, when we don’t have smooth electricity both the manpower and machinery comes to a halt which ultimately leads to us in losses. More than power tariff bills we have to pay extra on operations of DG sets,” he said.

Chief Engineer PDD for distribution, Ejaz Ahmad said they will look into the grievances of the unit holders.

“Efforts will be taken with concerned division, reliable and stable electricity supply will be given to unitholders,” he said—(KNO)
