Parties welcome Indo-Pak DGMO level talks

Srinagar: The mainstream political parties and moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) on Thursday welcomed the Director General of Military Operation (DGMO) level talks between India and Pakistan and said the measure will go a long way towards sustainable peace between the two neighbouring countries.

The National Conference (NC) president and Member of Parliament (MP) from Srinagar Dr Abdullah welcomed the agreement between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan armies to observe ceasefire alongside Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB).

The agreement between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan will go a long way in ushering long lasting peace alongside LOC, and IB, Said Party President while welcoming the development, he said adding the NC has always been a strong votary of Indo-Pak peace.

Abdullah said it is the people of Jammu and Kashmir that have been facing the brunt of escalating tensions alongside the borders. I hope the agreement is followed in letter and spirit. The development, I sincerely believe, will allow people living alongside LOC, IB to go about their normal lives with minimal disruption and risk,” he said.

He said that the profound negative impact of the animosity between the two neighboring countries was faced by the people who lived alongside the border on LOC, IB.

“The agreement, I believe if followed by the book, will help advance the collaboration between the two neighboring countries.  I have all along been saying that spilling of blood on either side of the borders is unjustifiable in today’s emancipated world.  The cessation of hatred between the two countries will help both the countries concentrate more on their respective population’s wellbeing.  I hope the development doesn’t go down as short lived flutter but increases the possibility of some forward advancement towards the resolution of all impending issues lingering between the two neighboring nations,” he said.

He said “I hope the respective sides will further use dialogue to resolve any unforeseen situation, and misunderstanding. I on behalf of my party welcome the move with a view that it augurs well for increased prospects of peace and prosperity in the entire region in particular Jammu and Kashmir.”

Welcoming DGMO level talks between India and Pakistan, President of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said dialogue is the only way forward if both countries want to stop the unending cycle of violence and bloodshed across the borders and Jammu and Kashmir.

Taking to micro blogging site Twitter president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba said “ A big & welcome development that India & Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire along the LoC. Dialogue is the only way forward if both countries want to stop the unending cycle of violence & bloodshed across the borders and J&K”.

Apni Party (AP) District President Kupwara Raja Mansoor also welcomed the ceasefire decision reached between India and Pakistan along the LoC that came into effect from midnight of February 24/25.

He said such an agreement was much anticipated: “The peace in border areas shall usher in a new era of stability and progress across J&K. In the meantime. It can be now expected that the inhabitants of border areas will return to their homes and live a normal life.”

The moderate Hurriyat faction led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said it is a move in the right direction, which will provide huge relief to the beleaguered people living under constant threat on the LOC and end the bloodshed there.

“Just as the joint statement correctly points out “that in the interest of achieving mutually beneficial and sustainable peace along the borders, the two DGMOs agreed to address each other’s core issues and concerns which have propensity to disturb the peace and lead to violence” , likewise,  in the interest of mutually beneficial and sustainable peace in the entire region , Governments of India and Pakistan need to address the core concern  of J&K in keeping with the aspirations of its people , which is the  cause of conflict and violence in the region,” the Hurriyat spokesman said.

He said talks are the best means to address this concern and we have always advocated it.
