Fresh WD to hit JK on Sunday

Met predicts rain, snow from Feb 23-27

Srinagar: A fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to hit Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Sunday night.

A WD, originating in Arabian sea is likely to enter the region on February 22 night after crossing Afghanistan and Pakistan, a Met department spokesman said.

He said the WD will remain active in the region till February 27.

However, during this period there could be moderate to light rain and snowfall mainly on February 22 night, 23rd, 26th and 27th in the valley.

Rain with thunderstorm could occur at some places of Jammu region whereas light snowfall is likely at scattered place of Ladakh, he said adding there is however, no forecast of any heavy precipitation during this spell.

The Sun again greeted as people woke up this morning in the Kashmir valley, where maximum temperature was recorded seven to 12 degree above normal during the past over a week after harsh winter when world famous Dal Lake and other water bodies besides water were frozen.

However, above normal maximum temperature could result in early melting of snow on the mountains.
