Srinagar, Jan 14: Residents of Nishat on Thursday hit streets as a mark of protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) for arbitrary increase in monthly power bills.
The protestors mainly women blocked the main road for nearly an hour which severely hampered traffic movement. Protesters were shouting slogans against concerned Executive and Assistant Executive Engineers for causing inconvenience to hundreds of consumers.
They alleged that the PDD for the past four months have been sending revised power bills to them which they are unable to pay.
“We assembled here to protest against the highhandedness of AE and AEE who continue to send bills with increased tariff and agreement. We are poor people, we cannot pay thousands of rupees every month, we demand disciplinary action against the two for putting people into inconvenience,” Abdul Lateef a local said.
He said PDD has been sending revised bills since August last year and in December crossed all limits by charging 1500 rupees monthly electricity fee to every consumer in the locality—(KNO)
