Fight me politically: Mehbooba to BJP

Srinagar, Dec 23: Accusing BJP-led Centre of terrorizing her family and friends in the name of investigation, former chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said that ‘the saffron party should fight with her politically and not through NIA, CBI and ED’.
“I want to tell the people sitting at the helm in New Delhi to fight me politically. BJP is not fighting me politically… BJP have so many ministers, Members of Parliament (MPs) and governments, they should fight me politically. Not through NIA, ED and CBI,” Mehbooba told reports during a press conference.
Mehbooba, who is the Vice President of Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), alleged that PDP youth leader Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra was arrested and pressurized by NIA so that she could be linked to militant funding as there were no corruption charges against her. “Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra was arrested a day after he filed his nomination papers. NIA kept him in its custody for one month… the only purpose to do so was to turn Waheed against me and implicate me in militancy cases. As there were no corruption charges against me, they are trying to associate me with militancy cases,” she said.
“He was deprived of sleep and was tortured. Waheed was interrogated by over 200 people and he was assured that if he became a witness against me, he would be freed,” she added.
The PDP president alleged that she has been conveyed many a times to think about her future and stop worrying about J&K. However, she said as she didn’t agree on this, the BJP has started to target her family and friends.
“My other family members and colleagues have been targeted. The residences of Anjum Fazil, a former PDP MLA, and a friend of mine were raided in Srinagar as well in Delhi. Without any reason, Nayeem Akhtar, Sartaj Madni and Bashir Mir were picked up and kept somewhere… I’m saying picked up because there was no preventive detention order against them. Then rumours where spread that they are being questioned in money laundering cases,” she said.
