Kashmiri leaders at loggerheads with New Delhi

Srinagar, Oct 22: Revival of political activities in Kashmir has led to the Valley based leaders locking horns with New Delhi.
An analyst while talking to Precious Kashmir said, “Since the day PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has been released the political activities appear to have regained momentum in the Valley. But the issues being raised by the Kashmir based leaders seem to have annoyed the people sitting in New Delhi.”
He said, “Since the day NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah said that Article 370 can be restored with China’s help, he has ended up in trouble. He has faced questioning by the Enforcement Directorate twice in connection with the multi-crore scam in Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association.”
He said, “Soon after senior Abdullah sought China’s help, BJP’s national spokesman Sambit Patra addressed a news conference in New Delhi and termed Dr Farooq as a traitor. Patra hitting out at Farooq was a hint that the former J&K chief minister has stirred the hornet’s nest.”
Soon after Dr Farooq was questioned, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti termed it as an attempt to prevent Kashmir based leaders from coming together.
An observer said, “New Delhi has allowed the Kashmiri leaders to start the political activities but the lines have been drawn and it’s clear that if politicians cross the line they will end up in trouble.”
He said, “Today, Dr Farooq is facing questioning, tomorrow any other leader could sail in the same boat. As on date the investigating agencies are busy probing the cases which had emerged during the erstwhile political regimes. Kashmir based leaders are caught between the devil and the deep sea as they are aware of the fact that when they were handling the affairs things were not that smooth and anything can fall on them at this point of time.”
A politician said, “Kashmir based leaders are walking on a tightrope. If they abandon their positions and accept the post August 5, 2019 position, it will be like conceding defeat. If they continue to claim that they will get everything back they may end up in more trouble.”
He said, “Since the day Mehbooba Mufti has been released, political activities have increased. NC and PDP have started holding party meetings regularly. Political parties are also reacting to different situations. But these parties will have to strike a balance to keep themselves away from any sort of trouble. In the coming days the picture will become more clear and we will come to know how far the Valley based leaders transcend.”
