Srinagar, Oct 21: Police used tear-smoke shells to disperse agitated relatives and family members of a lady patient allegedly ransacked Shifa Hospital here in Magarmal area of Srinagar city.
“The angry relatives of the patient ransacked and damaged the hospital from top to bottom,” Dr Gulzar said.
The relatives lost temper after the death of a lady who reportedly hails from Dandarkah area of Batamaloo Srinagar.
Reports said a 36 year old lady was admitted in the hospital last week after she developed some complications due to stone in gallbladder.
“Doctors assured us that she is fine and stable. She today died after suffering from internal injuries when one Dr Bilal conducted a surgery. How can a doctor be so negligent while taking care of a stable patient,” one of the relatives of the deceased lady said.
Dr Gulzar said she had developed pancreatic complications which can prove fatal sometimes.
He alleged that angry relatives of the deceased lady damaged hospital property worth lakhs.
“I was terrified. Many people sustained injuries during the melee,” said an eyewitness.
Dr Gulzar said even police was unable to curb the agitated locals.
“We tried our level best to save the lady but failed. Dr Bilal is an experienced doctor who did whatever was possible, but luck was not in his favour this time. Still we had offered compensation to the family of the deceased but they instead of listening to us, vandalized the hospital property,” he said.(KNT)
