Sports an opportunity for misguided youth to work for nation building: DIG

Kupwara, Oct 20: Police Tuesday inaugurated a T-20 knockout cricket tournament at sports stadium Galizoo in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district stating that sports provides an opportunity for misguided youth to work for “nation building.”
The knockout based police cricket tournament was inaugurated by the deputy inspector general (DIG) of police north Kashmir, Suleman Chaudhary in which 64 teams of Kupwara district will participate and police will bear all the expenses.
Speaking to media men on the sidelines of the event, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) police north Kashmir said that a wide range of similar tournaments were organized across the northern range involving youth to take active part in sports activities.
To a question the youth indulged into militant related activities and drugs, the DIG said that our purpose is to channelize the positive energy of “our youth and sports is something that teaches discipline and patience.”
He said that with more encouragement and involvement of youth in sports activities, the youth will have an opportunity to work for nation building and our aim is to provide youth a platform to channelize their energy in a very positive way and explore the talent within.
“People of this border district are highly talented and have good caliber. A few days back police conducted a separate event for especially abled sportsmen who showcased their talent”, he said.
A total number of 64 teams from district Kupwara will participate in a knockout based cricket tournament that will conclude within a given time period and the entire participation of teams will be without any entry fee, free of cost. (KNO)
