Protest against water scarcity in Batamaloo

Srinagar, Oct 9: Women protestors on Friday blocked main busy Exchange road near here protesting against Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department alleging water shortage in their areas in Batmaloo, Srinagar despite repeated assurance by the authorities.
Women, keeping social distance were raising slogans against the engineers of the department. Though water pipes were laid in our areas S D Colony and Momin Abad months ago but there was no water.
We have been facing water shortage for several years, they alleged and said now when the pipes were laid by the PHE deparment. But surprisingly some areas were provided water, we our areas continued to suffer.
The women protestors staged a dharna infront of the PHE department at Exchange road and did not allow any vehicles, including two wheelers.
Police personnel were seen persuading the women protestor to allow traffic and they will take the matter with the PHE department officials.
Similar protest was held by these women at Batmaloo, where they had blocked the main road. However, they allowed traffic only after assurance that water supply will be restored in their areas.
