Finalises arrangements for Buyer-Seller meet

Srinagar, Sept 30:  Director Agriculture Kashmir, Altaf Aijaz Andrabi Wednesday said the efforts are on at full swing to link farmers’ produce to the national market to enable them to improve their livelihood.

He said this during a function organised to hand over the keys of two Bolero Pickup vans to the farmers of District Budgam and Baramulla under Mission on Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) scheme at Lalmandi.

While speaking on the occasion, the Director reiterated that the department has envisaged a plan for the development of farming sector in the valley which includes to maintain timeliness in agriculture operations, to increase production and productivity, to reduce human labour besides providing better transportation and marketing facility to the growers and farmers to improve the farming community.

He advised the beneficiaries to use these vehicles in the best interest of farming operations and added that these pick up vans will not only  help the beneficiary to transport their fresh produce to the local Mandies  but also to the National Market which will ultimately fetch better prices.

The Director Horticulture Kashmir also chaired a meeting of concerned officers to finalise arrangements/modalities for Buyer-Seller meet here.

The department is organizing a Buyer-Seller meet on the pattern of Sunday Market within the premises of Directorate of Horticulture Kashmir shortly.

During the meeting, the Director informed that Buyer-Seller meet shall open opportunity for the farmers to sell their produce directly and avoiding the brokers.

He also instructed all the Chief Horticulture Officers to mobilize few orchardists from their respective districts for bringing their produce in the Buyer-Seller meet.
