Hold China accountable for COVID: Trump to UN

United Nations, Sep 22: US President Donald Trump, in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, on Tuesday called on the UN to hold China accountable for its actions on the Novel Coronavirus pandemic.
“In the earliest days of the virus, China locked down travel domestically, while allowing flights to leave China and infect the world … The United Nations must hold China accountable for their actions,” the US President said.
US-China ties have soured drastically since the pandemic, with Mr Trump repeatedly blaming China for the global pandemic.
Trump further said that if UN is to be an effective organisation, it must focus on the real problems of the world – “terrorism, the oppression of women, forced labor, drug trafficking, human and sex trafficking, religious persecution, and the ethnic cleansing of religious minorities’.
Trump even mentioned the Abraham Accord, which saw the UAE and Bahrain normalise relations with Israel.
He informed that the United States plans to announce more peace accords with Israel, soon after the Jewish state inked agreements with Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
‘We intend to deliver more peace agreements shortly and I have never been more optimistic for the future of the region. There is no blood in the sand, those days are hopefully over,’ the President added.
