IED defused in Baramulla

Baramulla, Sept 10:  The forces averted yet another major tragedy when they detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by militants in this north Kashmir on Thursday, official sources said.

They said a joint Road Opening Party (ROP) of 32 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police during a routine checking noticed a suspicious object near passenger shed at Chatloora of Rafiabad in Baramulla this morning.

The area was immediately sealed and traffic on Baramulla-Handwara road was suspended as a precautionary measure.

Later, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned and the IED was defused without causing any damage.

Had it not been detected and defused it would have caused much damage to life and property, they said adding large number of people remained in the area during the day.

This is the second IED recovered by the forces in this district during this week. On Monday a major tragedy was averted when forces detected and defused an IED at Arampora on Sopore-Baramulla road.
