Srinagar, Sep 6: Jammu and Kashmir has recorded more than 1000 COVID-19 positive cases in a day during the past few days and J&K’s tally has crossed 43000 mark.
An expert while talking to Precious Kashmir said, “COVID-19 cases increasing at a rapid pace in J&K is a worrying trend. Till now cases were increasing in Kashmir only but now in Jammu also cases are multiplying.”
He said, “After the lockdown has been lifted people are not taking the precautions which are necessary to keep COVID-19 at bay. It seems that they have started to believe that with the lifting of lockdown the COVID-19 has gone.”
The expert said that the virus is very much active and if people don’t follow the norms. They will end up in a big mess.
The cases increasing in Jammu region has sent the alarm bells ringing. “The numbers in Jammu have increased after the administration started Rapid Action COVID-19 Tests of the people. It’s a dicey situation as the panic has gripped many areas. They seem puzzled as till the recent past situation in Jammu was being projected well under control,” the expert added.
A medico said, “The virus is behaving in a strange way. Every month we think that the peak is over but we get new surprises every now and then.”
He said that people not wearing masks and not following social distancing norms have made things difficult for the medical fraternity. “During the past few months many doctors have tested positive for the virus. Our pleas asking people to wear masks and take precautions while visiting the hospitals have fallen flat. After the lockdown has been lifted, the situation has become more complex as people are trying to live their normal lives thinking that the pandemic is over. But it’s not so,” the medico added.
An official said, “Administration is keenly watching the situation. In the areas where we see that cases are increasing, lockdown is re-imposed without wasting any time. People need to take precautions and cooperate. Now, the Rapid Action Test Kits are becoming available and the testing rate is being enhanced further. Testing more people is helping us to identify the asymptomatic patients. Untill vaccines come, testing people is the only way. Rapid testing is helping us to isolate the patients so that they don’t become the carriers.”
The official urged people not to become complacent and stop blaming the administration. “We are in the midst of pandemic and we have to fight it together,” he added.
