DC inaugurates T20 cricket tournament in Pattan

Baramulla, Sept 6: In a significant move to resume different sports activities that were halted due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Dr G N Itoo in presence of District Youth Services and supports officer, today inaugurated T20 cricket tournament at Kungamdora Pattan with strict adherence of related SOPs and guidelines.
While kick starting the event, DC said that sports has a positive and constructive role in our social and psychological development besides such events enabling youth to engage in positive pursuits. He added that there is a need to provide appropriate platforms to youth so that their potential is channelized in a right way.
While reiterating the administration’s commitment towards development of sports and requisite infrastructure, DC said that various initiatives are being taken in this regard. He also urged the youth to participate in sports activities with more zeal and vigor besides ensuring every possible assistance on the part of administration.
The DC distributed various sports items among the teams which was highly appreciated by the people.
He said that during ‘Back to Village- Phase 3’ special focus shall be given towards redressal of issues and grievances fed by youth.
On the occasion, the inaugural match was played between Royal Cricket Club and Kungamdora Cricket Club; and about 32 teams are going to participate in the tournament.
