Karzai rejects membership in Reconciliation Council

Kabul, Aug 30:  Former Afghan president Hamid Karzai clarified on Sunday that he will not be a part of any government structure, after President Ghani named him as one of the members of the Reconciliation Council, TOLOnews reported.
While rejecting President Ghani’s offer Kazai said that he welcomes the peace efforts, and, as a citizen of the country, he “will continue his efforts to bring peace” in Afghanistan.
On Saturday night, President Ghani in a decree had named 48 members of the High Council for the National Reconciliation, which will be led by Abdullah Abdullah, as a first step towards preparing for the intra-Afghan talks.
In the decree Ghani had called upon religious scholars, the parliament, the private sector, media and provincial councils to forward their choice for the membership of the council within a week.
