Clarify stand on interest on loans in moratorium: SC to Centre

New Delhi, Aug 26: The Supreme Court on Wednesday expressed its displeasure over the way the Centre is taking action with respect to the moratorium case, and asked to clarify its stand within a week on the waiver of interest for deferred payments of instalments for loans during the moratorium period announced due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

The Apex Court, three-judge bench, headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan took note into record the Centre’s alleged inaction and asked it to file a detailed response within a week and posted the matter for further hearing to September 1.

The top court was hearing a petition seeking proper and appropriate directions and or orders on the issue of moratorium.

“This is corona times going on. People are facing a lot of difficulties. Please consider their plights. File your response within a week,” Justice Bhushan told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing on behalf of the Centre and fixed the matter for further hearing to September 1.
