COVID-19: India’s death toll crosses 14000 mark

 

Infection tally surges past 4.4 lakhs

New Delhi, June 23: Deaths in India due to COVID-19 crossed the 14,000-mark, reaching 14,011, as the total cases reached 440,215 on Tuesday, Union Health Ministry said. The active cases stand at 1,78,014, whereas 2,48,190 patients have recovered till Tuesday.

The recovery rate is rising and now stands at around 56 per cent as about 11,000 patients recovered in the past 24 hours.

Globally, the total number of coronavirus cases has crossed 90 lakh mark while the death toll has risen to 4.71 lakh, according to Johns Hopkins University.

The World Health Organization has warned that the pandemic was accelerating as economies reopen. The WHO has called for a rapid increase in production of the steroid dexamethasone, which has been shown to have life-saving potential for critically ill patients.
