Srinagar, June 6: Four Covid-19 infected patients died in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday taking the total number of deaths due to deadly virus across the union terrotory to 40.
First death was reported from Miran Sahib area of Jammu where a 62-year-old woman who was Covid positive breathed her last at GMC Jammu. Within a span of barely a few hours, a 72-year-old man from Shopian district of South Kashmir also succumbed.
He was also Covid positive. After him, another 70-year-old man from Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara died taking the number of total deaths in a day to three. In the evening, another elderly man from Baghat-Barzulla area of Srinagar died due to Covid infection at Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial (JLNM) hospital Rainawari, Srinagar.
With the fresh three deaths, the total number of deaths due to Covid have mounted to 40 of which 35 were recorded in Kashmir and five in Jammu region.
An official from CD hospital Srinagar told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a 72-year-old resident of Nowpora Baskushan area of Shopian district expired at CD hospital on Saturday. He said that the man with many underlying problems was shifted to CD hospital from SMHS on Friday after he was tested positive for the virus.
An official from SMHS said that a man from Handwara area of Kupwara who was suffering from many problems including bilateral pneumonia and he died an hour after he was admitted at SMHS. He said that the patient was tested positive for covid-19 few hours after his death at CD hospital. Fourth death was reported at JLNM hospital Srinagar where an elderly patient died after witnessing breathlessness.
The family members of the deceased alleged that the patient died for want of oxygen as no doctor was available for him. However, doctors refuted the allegation saying the patient was sick and had underlying medical conditions after which his condition deteriorated and he breathed his last.
The total 40 Covid deaths include 10 from Srinagar, 4 from Kulgam, 5 from Anantnag, 7 from Baramulla, 4 from Shopian, 2 from Budgam, 2 from Kupwara and one from Bandipora in Kashmir and 3 from Jammu and one each from Udhampur and Doda in Jammu divisions
