Srinagar, May 29: The IED-laden vehicle that was recovered by security forces in south Kashmir district of Pulwama belonged to an active Hizbul-Mujahideen (HM) militant, official sources said on Friday.
They said that after investigation, the identity of the owner of the car, which was fitted with about 40 to 45 kilograms of IED, came to fore.
‘Hidayatullah Malik, who owns the vehicle, is an active militant. The accused, a resident of Shopian, had joined Hizb in July last year,’ they added.
On Thursday, Security forces said that a major tragedy was averted by recovering and defusing about 45-kilogram Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Hizb militants in a vehicle in Pulwama.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Vijay Kumar on Thursday said that a major incident of an IED blast was averted by the timely input and action by Pulwama Police, CRPF and Army. ‘Militants were planning to attack security force vehicles by this IED-laden vehicle’, Kumar told reporters during a press conference.
