MS Bijbehara hospital accuses MCH Anantnag of mishandling COVID-19 negative patients

Writes to Div Com,  CMO, others seeks action against erring medicos

Srinagar, May 28: A day after Maternity and Childcare Hospital Anantnag forced a pregnant lady to visit 5 hospitals in a day, Medical Superintendent Sub District Hospital Bijbehara in a communiqué to higher authorities has accused the MCH of negligence and mishandling of COVID-19 negative pregnant patients.

Medical Superintendent Sub District Hospital Bijbehara in a letter vide number MS/SDH/BIJ/201-204 to Chief Medical Officer Anantnag has said that a pregnant lady Sheeraza Jan wife of Muhammad Amin of Kandgun Shangus was referred from MCH Anantnag to SDH Bijbehara despite having Covid-19 certificate she was carrying.

“Unfortunately her Covid-19 free certificate was not honoured by doctors at MCH Anantnag, despite the fact she was very critical having high Blood Pressure and was referred to SDH Bijbehara but the ambulance driver of MCH Anantnag threw her on the road side near Trauma Hospital Bijbehara where 49 positive cases are under isolation.”

The Medical Superintendent in his communiqué, a copy of which lies with news agency KNT further states that the said pregnant lady was then lifted from the road and admitted at SDH Bijbehara for treatment.

He claimed that such type of incidents have become a routine. “On May 24, two patients namely Gulnaz Jan wife of Farooq Ahmed a resident of Wantrag and Shaheena wife of Muhammad Asif Khan of Shangus were referred from MCH Anantnag in very critical condition to SDH Bijbehara. One of the patients was operated during night hours and delivered a female baby. “This clearly indicates the delinquency of duties dispersed by the Doctors as well as the staff of MCH Anantnag by risking the lives of poor and common pregnant ladies.”

Medical Superintendent has requested Chief Medical Officer to take the matter seriously as till date, not once but the MCH did it thrice.

He has sent a copy to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Director Health Services and District Development Commissioner Anantnag.

As reported earlier on the lame excuse of hailing from a Red Zone, a woman Sheeraza Jan wife of Muhammad Amin of Kandgun Shangus suffering from labour pain was shifted from one hospital to another throughout the day. The pregnant woman and her family faced lot of inconvenience and agony visiting 5 five hospitals at a stretch.  All this was done to this pregnant lady in the garb of Covid-19 pandemic.

Pertinently, in last week of April this year, a pregnant woman, who hailed from a COVID-19 red zone area, died at the same MCH Anantnag prompting authorities to order an inquiry into the death.

The woman, who hailed from Kharpora village, was pregnant with twins, died at the hospital along with the unborn babies, and after her death, her family members had alleged the doctors delayed her treatment as she hailed from a red zone area.

An inquiry had been ordered into the incident and later it was claimed that the said woman was tested positive for Covid-19 after her death. (KNT)
