Barring Pulwama district, mobile phone service restored in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 8: Barring south Kashmir’s Pulwama district cellular services were restored in other districts of the Valley on Friday night. The mobile phone and internet services were suspended in Kashmir three days ago after Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Riyaz Naikoo and his aide, were killed in an encounter with the security forces at Beighpora Awantipora, while two other militants were killed in another gunfight at Khrew.
However, the mobile internet services across Kashmir continued to remain suspended. Only BSNL mobile phone and landline services were working in the Valley, where curfew-like restrictions remained imposed in some areas to maintain law and order.
