Srinagar: Security forces have arrested four militant associates and recovered war-like stores, including eight AK 47 rifles, nine pistols, 77 grenades and huge cache of ammunition in north Kashmir, official sources said here on Monday.
Confirming the development, police termed it a ‘big jolt’ to militant plans to revive militancy in the apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir.
Sources said following specific information about delivery of arms and ammunition in Sopore, police apprehended four persons near District Hospital Sopore. ‘During questioning, the accused confessed to providing logistic support to militants,’ they said.
The accused also gave away location of a militant hideout where huge cache of arms and ammunition was dumped in border town of Keran in north Kashmir district of Kupwara.
A joint operation by police and 6 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) was launched in Keran sector. ‘During the operation, security forces recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition, including eight AK-47, 25 AK Magazines, 750 AK rounds, nine pistols, 16 Pistol Magazines, 351 Pistol Round, 77 grenades and 21 detonators,’ they added.
They said the operation was on when the reports last came in.
