Srinagar: Police on Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly raping a minor girl in the summer capital, Srinagar.
A police official said that Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh received a complaint of an alleged rape of a minor girl by a shopkeeper. “A case was registered and investigation was taken up,” he said.
He said a police team immediately tracked the accused and arrested him. “The accused has been identified as Fazil Salim resident of Batwara, Srinagar,” he said.
He said Salim has been shifted to Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, where he remains in custody. “As a part of investigation, necessary medico-legal examination of the victim has been carried out. All standard operating procedures as mandated under POCSO act are being followed to deter criminals from committing such a heinous crime,” he said.
Further investigation in the matter is in progress, he added.
