Blasts rock Kabul as rival candidates take oath

Kabul, Mar 9: Two explosions rocked Kabul on Monday when Ashraf Ghani and Dr Abdullah took oath at parallel presidential inaugurations.

At least two people were injured as rockets hit the rival inauguration ceremonies.

“Two rockets hit the outskirts of Zarangar Park and Serena Hotel which injured two people,” the source said.

One rocket fell near the presidential palace as Ashraf Ghani was speaking.

Ghani was declared the winner of September’s election, prompting ire from his main opponent, outgoing Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, who held a simultaneous swearing-in for himself.
