NC remembers party stalwart Sheikh Nazir Ahmad

Srinagar, Feb 24,: National Conference on Monday paid glowing tributes to party veteran and former general secretary Sheikh Nazir Ahmad on his 5th death anniversary terming him as a man of vision and action.
A commemorative meet following the 5th death anniversary of party stalwart and former leader Sheikh Nazir Ahmad was held here at party head quarters Nawa e Subha at Srinagar, where party’s senior leader and Member of Parliament Muhammad Akbar Lone led the party functionary in paying homage to the veteran leader. The meet saw a large participation of party’s parent body members, YNC functionaries, Women wing delegates, Minority wing members and scores of block presidents, constituency in charges from across the valley.
Addressing the meet party’s senior leader North zone president, Member of Parliament from Srinagar recalled his immense contribution towards the party. “He was brought up in the heroic mould of Sher e Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah. Illustrious men like him are rarely born. His not being physically being with us has created a poignant vacuum in our polity. His services and sacrifices are a legend. A brave man, Nazir Sahib was one of those few leaders who truly and amply represented the spirit of the age in which they lived. He always inspired party workers to do brave deeds and heroic exploits,” he said.
Lone said that Nazir Sahib always maintained that grass root level workers are the corner stone of organizational democracy. “He was always willing to be little. A lifelong manager of our organization; he always lend a compassionate ear to the qualms of party workers. A revered gentle man and a close associate of Sher e Kashmir, and Dr Farooq Abdullah. His doors were always open for party functionaries, delegates, workers and common people, whom he empathized with. Serving people was his only lifelong purpose,” he said adding, “It is due to his inspiring personality, and the political idealism that has helped the party permeate its roots deep inside the socio-political landscape of J&k.”
Party provincial secretary Showkat Ahmad Mir, District president Srinagar Pir Afaq while paying homage to the party veteran said, “He has left an undeniable imprint on our lives, we owe a lot to him. He always educated us about the various facets of polity and the essence of being in public life. A dignified and disciplined person, Nazir Sahib never budged on his political idealism. He always stressed on worker, party functionaries to maintain political probity in their political activities. The best tribute to his revered personality would be to follow the trail which he has left behind. He has no account discriminated between a sitting minister and a worker. He epitomized sacrifice and discipline.”
Reminiscing the qualities of party veteran party Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said, “Late Nazir sahib was so familiar and loved in party. A repository of knowledge and political acumen, he was always concerned about common people. He arduously worked towards strengthening the party; much of the infrastructure of party was erected under his guidance. There could no better tribute to him than having a repository housing his books, pictures and writings. A special section should also come up to house the audio-visual clips of late Nazir Sahib and other party veterans.”
On the occasion Fatiha Khawani was also held, the participants prayed for peace to the soul of veteran leader Sheikh Nazir Ahmad.
