Anantnag: Jammu and Kashmir Police in its continued drive arrested four drug peddlers and recovered 137 kgs of poppy straw in two separate operations in south Kashmir valley of Kulgam, a police spokesman said.
In a statement last evening, spokesman said that police at a checkpoint in the jurisdiction of Police Station Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway intercepted an Oil Tanker bearing registration number PB10DC-5507 with two persons on board.
On checking, police recovered 125 kgs of poppy straw concealed in 10 bags from inside the Oil Tanker. Both the persons have been arrested and a case FIR number 40/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Qazigund.
Similarly, in another action against drug dealings, police at Jawahar Tunnel intercepted a Maruti with two persons on board. On checking, police recoverd 12 kgs of poppy straw from the vehicle. Police arrested both the persons and a case FIR number 39/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Qazigund.
All the four drug peddlers have been shifted to Police Station Qazigund where they remain in custody. Both the vehicles used in the peddling of drugs have also been seized by the police.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings, he said.
