Srinagar: A case has been registered against a former executive engineer of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for alleged ‘misappropriation of funds and misusing his position in the allotment of works’ in Kashmir valley.
“A case was registered by J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) after investigation into allegations related to misappropriation of fund and misuse of position in allotting work by Bashir Ahmad during his tenure as the executive engineer, PHE Division Bijebehara Anantnag, and others,” official sources said.
They said Mr Bashir was accused of corrupt practice in allotting works, including Anantnag-Kishtwar road project, to blue-eyed contractors. “The allotment in the contract was cancelled and later contracted with four times above the allotted cost,” they said.
They said an amount of about Rs 4.80 crore was drawn against the execution of different works executed by his division in the flood-restoration programme without following proper procedure. “The physical status of permanent flood restoration works in the division was checked and most works do not exist,” they said.
They said a case has been registered and further investigation is going. “A search was conducted at the residence of Mr Bashir,” they added.
