2 BSF men killed in Pandach attack, weapons snatched

Srinagar, May 20: Two Border Security Forces (BSF) men were killed in a militant attack at Pandch on outskirts of Srinagar city on Wednesday afternoon.

Talking to KNO Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar said thatĀ  three bike- borne militants fired upon two BSF personnel at a naka party.

He said the BSF personnel had gone to buy something from a local shop when the militants fired upon them. ā€œOne of the BSF solider died on spot while the other was moved for medical treatment but he succumbed to his injuries at hospital,ā€ he said.

The IGP confirmed that two weapons of the slain soldiers were also snatched by the militants. He also said the whole area has been cordoned to track down the militants.

 

The two slain BSF personnel were identified as constable Rana Modol (Regt No. 098770133) and constable Jiaul Haque (Regt No. 130843597 CT). The personnel were part of Cā€™ company of 37th Battalion BSFā€™, deployed as a part of Adhoc K- 7 Battalion BSF in Pandach area for law and order duty since August 2019.

The BSF said that militants took away the weapons of the soldiers.

This is the third hit-and-run attack by militants in Kashmir in the past 32 days. On April 18, three paramilitary CRPF personnel were killed in a militant attack in Sopore.

In the first week of this month, three CRPF personnel were killed in similar attack in Vangam area of Qaziabad in Kupwara district. (KNO)
