Govt expresses concern over rising covid cases in Police force

Advisor Batnagar says ‘ways discussed with officials to check spread of disease’

Srinagar, May 19: With the biggest cluster of Jammu and Kashmir Police cops having fallen prey to the deadly covid-19 infection in Kashmir valley, the Lieutenant Governor G C Murmu’s Advisor Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar Tuesday said, that he has discussed ways with top police officials to check the spread of the deadly disease.
“The issue of a number of coronavirus cases in police force was discussed with the top officials. Forces who are on forefront have been asked to take all precautionary measures so that the virus does not spread,” Batnagar told news agency KINS.
Lieutenant Governor G C Murmu had assigned maximum affairs of the home department to Advisor Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar.
Bhatnagar further said that the officials were asked to ensure the wellbeing of the infected police personnel. “Whoso ever is on forefront as covid warriors, the government is very much concerned about them. Whether it is police or other forces, Doctors, paramedical staff, nurses, the government is with them. We are taking all possible and preventive measures so that the virus does not spread among the frontline warriors,” he said.
The Advisor however said that in any eventuality the forces have to be on forefront. “Our forces are capable to deal with any eventuality. I must appreciate their role in helping the government to contain the deadly covid-19. People must also appreciate the forces and all those who are taking care of them and making it possible to prevent the spread of the virus”.
The Jammu and Kashmir police have launched multiple measures to contain the infection by sanitising the premises and asking troops to strictly follow anti-coronavirus medical protocols.
Around, 55 of Jammu and Kashmir personnel, including an SP Rank officer, has been tested positive for coronavirus in Anantnag. This is so far the biggest cluster of cops to have fallen prey to the infection. All personnel are said to be from armed police IR 11th battalion.
According to reports, out of 102 cops who were tested, 36 were confirmed positive on Monday, and 19 had tested positive on Sunday. This spike of 55 cases has shot up the number of total Covid-19 infected personnel to 65.
Sources told KINS that, Anantnag Police is undertaking aggressive testing to identify Covid-19 cases.
Coronavirus cases in Jammu and Kashmir have so far hovered around 1200 mark and 16 deaths.
Meanwhile a senior police officer told KINS that there is a huge concern regarding the spike in cases. “We have told force personnel to take utmost precaution” he said.
It is to mention here that in order to boost the morale of the police personnel at the forefront of the war against coronavirus, 230 corona warriors were bestowed with commendation certificates and cash rewards by the Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh.(KINS)
