COVID-19: India crosses 1 lakh mark, over 3000 dead

5,242 fresh infections in past 24 hours; 36,824 recover till date
New Delhi, May 17: India’s COVID-19 cases crossed one lakh mark on Monday after country registered the highest single-day spike of 5,242 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry reported.
Till date 3029 people have died due to COVID-19 infection while 36824 patients have recovered across the country.
Rajasthan topped the tally with 140 fresh cases taking its Novel Coronavirus tally to 5,342, while the death toll stood at 133.
With 47 fresh cases surfacing in Uttar Pradesh, it’s infection tally rose to 4,511, second in the country. The state has 1,763 active patients, while 2,636 patients have recovered and 112 died. As many as 1,878 patients were under isolation, while 10,601 were in facility quarantine, State Principal Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said.
With detection of 29 more new cases, the number of Corona positive cases has increased to 1392 in Bihar, taking the third rank in COVID cases nationwide.
Karnataka recorded the single-day highest spike of 99 fresh cases of COVID-19, including 24 from Bengaluru Urban district, taking the total number of infections in the state to 1,246. the state stood at fourth position in the country.
