COVID-19: 2 nurses among 13 new cases in J&K, tally rises to 836

Srinagar, May 9: A total of 13 people tested positive for novel coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, taking the number of the COVID-19 patients in J&K to 836.

While three of them include two nurses and an attendant of a patient admitted at Super Specialty Hospital Shreenbagh here, four cases are from Ganderbal, two each from Srinagar and Kupwara besides one each from Pulwama and Kathua districts.

Nodal officer Dr Saleem told GNS that out of 463 samples tested at CD Hospital’s virology lab, six came out to be positive for the pathogen.

They include two cases from Srinagar—65-year-old man from Dabtal Zainakadal and 40-year-old woman from Saidapora Eidgah, both with travel history to New Delhi and one (62-year-old woman) from Awantipora Pulwama. Three other cases confirmed there are from Super Specialty Hospital Shreen Bagh here and include two staff nurses—41-year-old from Shopian and 26-year-old from Larnoo and the other is an attendant—35-year-old woman— of a patient, both residents of Shahlatoo Shopian.
Similarly out of 947 samples processed Viral Diagnostic Lab of the SKIMS, six came out to be positive for the novel coranvirus, Professor Farooq Jan, medical superintendent of the tertiary care hospital said.

They include four from Ganderbal district—22-year-old and 27-year-old male from Chanthun Lar, 32-year-old man from Waliwar and 22-year-old youth from Kangan.

The two others are from Goonipora Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district and include 39 and 55-years-old men. All the six cases confirmed at SKIMS have no history of travel, sources said.

They said one positive case of Covid 19 has been confirmed at Basohli belt in Kathua district. The person was under administrative quarantine, the sources added.

The officials informed that 4 more patients have recovered, taking the number of such people to 368.

J&K’s overall tally has now gone upto to 836—69 in Jammu and 767 in Kashmir. Among them 368 persons have recovered and nine others have died, leaving active cases at 459—13 in Jammu and 446 in Kashmir.

With these cases, Bandipora has 134 positive cases (58active) followed by Srinagar with 131ccases (52 active), Anantnag 122 (120 active), Baramulla 106 (58 active), Shopian 100 (53 active), Kupwara 71 (38 active), Budgam 46 (33 active), Ganderbal 23 (9 active ), 21 Kulgam (16 active) and Pulwama 12 (9 active)

Similarly, Jammu has 31 positive cases and all but 5 of them have recovered followed by Udhampur 22 (2 Active), Samba 7 (3 active), Rajouri 4 (zero active), Kathua 2 (one active) while Kishtwar (zero active), Ramban and Reasi districts have one case each.

Government said till date 90541 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 20092 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 167 in Hospital Quarantine, 459 in hospital isolation and 9244 under home surveillance. Besides, 60570 persons have completed their surveillance period. (GNS)
