Army pay tributes to soldiers killed in cross LoC firing

Srinagar, May 3: Army paid rich tributes to late Havildar Gokaran Singh and late Naik Shankar Singh Merha, who laid down their lives n the line of duty in Rampur Sector of Baramulla district on Friday, an army spokesman said in a statement.
He said that a solemn ceremony was held at BB Cantt here to pay tributes to the slain soldiers. Lt Gen BS Raju, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks paid homage. “Late Havildar Gokaran Singh and Late Naik Shankar Singh Merha were manning a forward post at the Line of Control and sustained injuries during the ceasefire Violation by Pakistan in Rampur Sector on 1 May 2020. The soldiers were provided immediate first aid and evacuated to the nearest medical facility, but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries” the statement said.

“Late Havildar Gokaran Singh, 41 years, had joined the Army in 1996. He hailed from Village Napper, Tehsil Munshiyari, District Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand and is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son”.

“Late Naik Shankar Singh Merha, 31 years, had joined the Army in 2010. He belonged to village Nali of Tehsil Gangolihat, District Pithoragarh of Uttarakhand. He is survived by his wife and a son”.

“The mortal remains were taken for last rites to their native place. In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved families and remains committed to their dignity and wellbeing” the statement added.
