COVID-19 cases breach 28k mark in India

New Delhi, Apr 27: India recorded 1,463 fresh Novel Coronavirus cases and 60 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the count to 28,380 and fatalities to 886.

Addressing the presser, Union Health Ministry’s Joint Secretary Luv Agarwal said the recovered patients cannot be a source of transmission of the disease. Mr Agarwal said the recovery rate of COVID patients has improved and stands at 22.17 per cent.

 

He said 16 districts in the country have not reported any fresh case in the past 28 days. Today, three more districts – Gondia (Maharashtra), Devangere (Karnataka) and Lakhi Sarai (Bihar) joined the list, taking the total to 19 districts.

Maharashtra continued to top the tally with 8,068 cases, followed by Gujarat at 3,301 cases, Delhi at 2,918 cases and Rajasthan at 2,185 cases, Madhya Pradesh 2168 cases, Tamil Nadu 1885 cases, Andhra Pradesh 1,177 cases and Telangana 1002, as per the Health Ministry data.

Till date, Maharashtra recorded the highest number of deaths 342, followed by Gujarat 151, Madhya Pradesh 106, Delhi 54, Rajasthan 41, 31 each in Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, Telangana 26, Tamil Nadu 24 , 20 each in Karnataka and West Bengal and Punjab (18).

The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has added six new triggers to the list of symptoms of the pandemic, including loss of smell or taste, intense chills, muscle pain, headache, pink eye and sore throat.
