Bill Gates slams Trump for WHO Funding Freeze

United News of India
Washington, Apr 15: Microsoft founder and well-known philanthropist Bill Gates on Wednesday came down heavily on US President Donald Trump for freezing the funding to the World Health Organisation (WHO), describing the move as ‘dangerous’ and termed the organisation’s work as ‘irreplaceable’.

The billionaire, whose charity Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation focuses on public health and disease eradication, claimed that the world presently needs WHO more than ever.

The WHO’s activities are slowing the spread of COVID-19 and no other organisation can replace the global health body, Sputnik qouted Gates as saying.

The US President had announced on Tuesday that he had instructed his administration to stop funding the WHO, which according to him, failed to communicate the intensity of the threat from the virus and mismanaged the pandemic.

Apart from Gates, many US politicians, and certain countries such as Germany, China and the United Nations also have extended support to the WHO and expressed their displeasure at Trump’s decision.
